I love my work. The staff here at Mental Health are some of the finest people I have ever met. Want to be of service. Put themselves on the line to do something useful for somebody else. And the mentally ill aren’t always easy to work with. The brain problems often catch them and their families and everybody else by surprise. Most of them work so hard to stay well and then their bio-chemistry betrays them. It’s a hard road. And we able people don’t make it any easier with our fears and our denial. At least one family out of every four, one in four! has to deal with some form of mental illness in their mother, father, or children. It takes a lot of heart to endure that kind of illness. A lot of heart to hang in there and keep trying. I don’t know if I personally possess that kind of courage and determination, so I really admire it when I see it. And I see it every day.
Something else I wouldn’t mind seeing every day is that Deputy Gates. He’s a good man. I know it. I can feel it.
