| MURRAY I don’t see why everything always has to be explained. Pearl’s always asking me what do I think is really happening. Makes me want to scream. The truth is I don’t know. It would be like somebody asking you, ‘Why do you talk with your friends?’ You just do, right? Pearl asked me if I made everything up. Everything they said. How would I? Why would I? I mean, it never even occurred to me. I notice, though, that dead people are a lot kinder than most living people. I think dying does something to you and you begin to understand what’s really important. You don’t care so much about how you look or how much money your family has. You care more about friends and people you love. That’s a pretty good lesson. Plus, dead people have a story with an ending and sometimes there are lessons in that. Like Edwin and Blessed teach me to be glad that I’m alive today. That I can walk around. And Dearly teaches me how good it feels when someone listens to you and treats you kindly. When I say that, though, I think right off about Mr. Janochek. He’s the nicest older person I’ve ever met. Anyway, I learn a lot from talking with dead people. What’s the matter with that? |
